Uses of Polyvinyl Alcohol
Polyvinyl alcohol it is the perfect complement to the release wax, as it creates a thin film, flexible and non-stick between the mold and the reproductions or pieces, preventing them from being stuck together and your work from being ruined. In other words, polyvinyl alcohol
serves:
- As a mold release agent for polyester resin
- As an insulating barrier for epoxy resins, polyester resins, etc.
How should alcohol be applied? Polyvinyl in a mold?
- Apply alcohol with a brush or sponge.
- If the mold has been pretreated with Demolding Wax, the PVA film will remain on the object after the part is unmolded. This PVA film must be removed from the object to avoid difficulties in subsequent gluing and painting operations. This operation can be performed simply by pulling the PVA film
.
- Once removed, scraps or pieces of it may remain PVA film, which can be removed by washing with water.
- The film must be renewed every molding cycle.
- The mold temperature should not be higher than 40 ºC after application of the mold release agent. A dry layer of PVA, however, is resistant up to temperatures of 120 ºC.
