Description

PA12 + CF15 (Polyamide 12 reinforced with 15% carbon fiber) represents the pinnacle of technical filaments for engineering. Designed to replace metal components in critical applications, this material combines the chemical stability of Nylon 12 with the structural integrity of high-modulus carbon fiber.

Mechanical and Thermal Properties

  • Exceptional Rigidity: Thanks to the carbon fiber reinforcement, the material features a superior tensile modulus, eliminating the flexibility common in standard plastics and allowing high mechanical loads without deformation.

  • Advanced Thermal Resistance: Capable of withstanding thermal deflection temperatures (HDT) up to 170°C, making it suitable for under-the-hood environments in automotive or industrial machinery that generates constant heat.

  • Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Offers comparable strength to aluminum alloys, but with significantly lower density, optimizing energy efficiency in mobile applications.

Advantages in the Manufacturing Process

  • Dimensional Accuracy: The CF15 dramatically reduces the coefficient of thermal expansion, resulting in virtually zero warping (warp). This makes it easy to print large parts to exact tolerances.

  • Professional Aesthetic Finish: Carbon fibers hide layer lines, providing a high-quality matte black surface that requires little to no post-processing.

  • Chemical Durability: As a PA12 base, it offers excellent resistance to oils, greases, fuels and solvents, as well as low moisture absorption compared to PA6.

Recommended Applications

  1. Aerospace and Drones: Chassis, engine arms, and camera mounts that require maximum rigidity and minimum weight to extend flight time.

  2. Automotive: Air ducts, sensor brackets, and mounting fixtures that must withstand heat and vibrational fatigue.

  3. End-Use Parts: Custom tools, industrial-grade protective housings, and mechanical components that operate in severe conditions.

Print Specifications (Referential)

  • Nozzle Temperature: 260°C – 290°C

  • Bed Temperature: 80°C – 100°C

  • Technical Note: The use of hardened steel or ruby nozzles is required, as carbon fiber is highly abrasive and will wear out brass nozzles in no time.
